Judith Blair Peterson

Judith's paintings reflect her enduring and exuberant passion for her farmland upbringing in rural Utah. Raised in Marriott, next door to her grandparents' farm, Judith grew to love and enjoy the feel of nature, wading ankle deep in the water on irrigation days. She observed her Grandfather's chickens, cows, horses, and the scary bull. Judith caught bugs, frogs and spiders, and cut fresh flowers with her Grandmother for the dining room table. She was taught about double blossom lilacs and storing squash, onions and root vegetables in the cellar for winter. Judith looked forward to her Grandfather's homemade fudge and memorable family traditions. Like Siddhartha, she was “waiting, watching, and listening."
Judith was the second of six children and struggled to find her identity in a large, artistic family. Combining her father's great love of animals, fields of alfalfa and trees of all varieties with her mother's musical gifts as a violinist, vocalist and composer, engraved a lasting impression on her. These qualities became the roots of her artistic beginnings.

ARTIST STATEMENT:

With curiosity, spontaneity, and a serious mind, Judith walks her path seeing beauty in life's impermanence and in “the moments of happiness.” I express these unique and “ineffable moments” as an impressionist and as a lover of “The Art of Impasto.” My emphasis is on pastoral scenes, animals, and all things Asian. Brush and strong knife work bring surface texture, energy and interest to each canvas.
An eye for design and a flair for making a simple landscape interesting, spending time preparing thick and luxuriant paint, draws the eye into my work. My ultimate intention is to bring beauty and inspiration to the canvas with subtle hues and a unique style of Impasto.
I find great joy in daily painting and receive the benefit of creativity, spontaneity, and harmony in my life.
