Ruth, born and raised in Utah, has acquired a love and passion for the beauty of this state and its unique diversity. She began painting in high school and continued her education with a Composite Art Major at BYU. She is also a certified secondary art teacher and taught two years at Olympus High School and one year at a private girls' school in Hawaii. She has taught at ITT Technical Institute. She has also taught painting at UVSC and is currently teaching basic art principles at LDS Business College in SLC, UT.
She has studied with several local and national artists including: Frederick Wong, Carl Purcell, Osral Allred, L'Deanne Trueblood, Don Andrews, and Alex Powers.
She has been in several shows including: American Mothers, Utah 86, Springville Women's Show and April Salons. Also is a signature member of the Utah Watercolor Society and has won several awards including two Best of Show, ISA shows including one Best of Show, Deseret News shows, Utah State Fair, and Ching Hai Oriental shows.
Ruth was a finalist in THE ARTISTS's national magazine competion in 1992 and again in 1999 in the Experimental category. And was Art and Soup poster artist in 1992.
Ruth paints in mostly oils. Her main interest in painting is the communicate and spiritual nature of beauty around us and our connection to it. If we connect spiritually with Heaven and Earth and honor that connection, there is healing and peace in our thoughts, emotions, and in our lives.
Ruth's painting reflect, in part, her journey through life. Sometimes they convey confusion and struggle and sometimes peace and harmony. As an artist, she feels that as she creates peace through art, human hearts communicate and can be lifted to a better place; sometimes transported to a place of energy, peace and healing.
